VHS tapes––it's possible you've got quite a few stashed away somewhere at the bottom of a cupboard, waiting to get tossed out or…something! If you're the crafty type, there are some really cool things you can do with these archaic icons, like gluing them together to make furniture, art, or even turn them into lights! You can also use individual parts of VHS tapes for other practical purposes like wrapping gifts, spooling thread, or storing art supplies.

===Using VHS Tapes to Build Things===
#Glue old VHS tapes together to create coffee tables or night stands. Use super glue to stick VHS tapes together to make 4 legs of a table. Glue more tapes together side by side to make a flat rectangular or square table top, then glue it on top of the legs.<ref>http://mentalfloss.com/article/64782/15-new-uses-old-vhs-tapes</ref>

#*To make the legs, you can glue several tapes front-to-back to make thick legs, or glue them together at the corners to make L-shaped legs. Use your imagination to create any style of table you want!

#Make boxy shelving out of VHS tapes glued together in squares. Glue 4 tapes together with super glue in a square shape. [[Hang Shelves Without Nails|Hang up]] these individual squares on your wall as shelves, or glue several together to create a bigger grid-shaped shelf.<ref>http://mentalfloss.com/article/64782/15-new-uses-old-vhs-tapes</ref>
+
#*For example, to create a basic coffee table, glue 2 tapes together, standing up, in an “L” shape, then 2 more on top of those to create each leg. Lay out a 3 by 4 grid of tapes flat, and glue them together at their sides to create the table top. Next, glue a leg underneath each corner of the table top.
#*If you create a large grid-like shelf, you can set it on the floor instead of hanging it up on a wall.

#Create planters from old VHS tapes glued together in a box shape. Make a flat bottom for a planter by gluing several tapes together with super glue side by side in a square or rectangle. Glue more tapes around the bottom and on top of each other to make sides as tall as you want.<ref>https://ift.tt/31TlWSG>

#Glue VHS tapes together to create abstract art sculptures. Think up any design you want and then use super glue to glue tapes together to create it. Make something totally abstract, or a pixely-looking outline of something.<ref>https://ift.tt/31TlWSG>

#Glue VHS tapes to old CDs to create bookends. Use super glue, or a hot glue gun, to glue 1 or 2 old CDs to the bottom of 1 or 2 old VHS tapes. The CD will create a base that helps the tape stand up and act as a bookend.<ref>https://ift.tt/2Y8ektb>
  +
#*If your VHS tapes have the old cardboard sleeve-type covers, you can keep them on to give each bookend a unique look and add an interesting touch to your bookshelf.
  +
#Take apart a VHS tape and put LED string lights inside to make a lamp. Unscrew the cassette to take it apart. Cut and unwind the tape from each spool, then replace it with LED string lights. Run the plug end of the cord with the power button out of the cassette, and screw the cassette back together.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqo-GWyuqug&feature=youtu.be&t=55</ref>

#*You can use clear or colored lights. Create several different varieties of these mini LED lamps to decorate your home with.

#Store art supplies or anything else inside of plastic VHS cases. The old plastic shell-type VHS tape cases are perfect for storing things like pens, pencils, markers, and other art supplies. They snap shut, so whatever you want to store inside won’t fall out.<ref>https://refreshliving.us/resue-vhs-cases-for-art-storage/</ref>

#Replace the covers on a notebook with an old cardboard VHS tape cover. Find a spiral notebook that is approximately the size of a VHS tape and remove the spiral from the notebook. Cut the front and back covers off of a VHS tape cover of your choice and use a spiral hole punch to punch holes in them. Reassemble the notebook with the new covers.<ref>https://ift.tt/324s2Qi>

#*You could also just glue the old VHS tape cover art to the front and back covers of a notebook for a quick shortcut.
  +
#*You can also use the covers of several old VHS tapes to create a collage that you can use as wall art.
