The Best Tech Of 2019: What To Shop This Holiday Season

The holidays aren't even here yet and I'm already anxious. This might be a me problem, but I am willing to bet I'm not the only one with major gift-giving anxiety. The gigantic soup that is the internet marketplace fills up with a lot of new products this time of year, especially when it comes to big ticket tech items. Oh, and earbuds.

And 'tis the season for buying. With Black Friday deals around the corner and every brand and its mother debuting their 2020 hardware lineups, there's a lot to choose from. So we thought we'd do the work for you. Ahead, here are the best tech buys of 2019 — from actually chic audio sunglasses to the very best party speakers. And be sure to check back, since we'll be updating throughout the holidays.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Google Pixelbook Go

This new addition to Google's hardware lineup is the cutest damn laptop I have ever seen. (It elicited many 'aww''s from my onlooking coworkers when I opened it up at my desk.) It's super light with a grippable back, which makes it really easy to cart around to meetings or class, and it has a really beautiful display.

Also, the keyboard has what Google calls Hush Keys, and true to their name, they're completely silent. They're also really shallow, which means not a lot of crunch is required to engage them (a win in my book, and I am a self-proclaimed keyboard aficionado).

Mirror

Though definitely a splurge, this at-home interactive fitness mirror is sleek, fits right on your wall, and streams live and on-demand fitness videos of all kinds. You can also use it for one-on-one personal training sessions.

Apple AirPods Pro

I didn't think I could become more of an AirPods fan, but... I became one with the birth of AirPods Pro, Apple's new noise-cancelling addition to the AirPods lineup. The sound is excellent and really does seal off noise, but the best part is that you can still have conversations while wearing them when you use Transparency mode. And your voice doesn't sound like its underwater, as is the case with so many other noise-cancelling headphones.

This is truly the easiest way to stay connected with your family this holiday season — no matter where in the world they are.

Microsoft Surface Pro X

For the digital artist in your life, this tablet brings next-level tablet game. It has an edge-to-edge touchscreen display and is the thinnest Surface ever — perfect for illustration and design (in addition to all normal laptop fare, of course). And with this keyboard and Slim Pen (which fits inside the keyboard) bundle, it can be your all-purpose laptop.

Sonos Move

With Sonos Move, you can have a party literally wherever. The speaker is completely portable, but it looks just as good on your bookshelf (no bulky handles or distracting detailing). It can accommodate whatever environment it's in with a feature called Trueplay, which automatically tunes sound to surroundings as they change — so like, you can transition from the living room to the fire escape no problem.

And you can connect your music to Move via Bluetooth if you're not somewhere with good Wifi. Plus, you can pair it with Google Assistant or Alexa if you want to turn it into a voice assistant.

Bose Frames

I reviewed these frames this summer, and they remain one of my favorite gadgets of the year. They produce surprisingly great sound and are a great solution for situations where you want to listen to music while walking down the street without committing to earbuds. They're also very chic and make me feel like James Bond. Many birds, one stone.

Philips SmartSleep Connected Sleep and Wake Up Light

Winter is coming, folks. And for me, that means it's a lot harder to get up in the morning. This bedside light and alarm comes with customizable sunrise and sunset simulations that you can control with just touch — which makes waking up and falling asleep a whole lot easier. And the light's sleek design makes it pretty enough to keep on your bedside table.
