I Tried EVERY Brandless Product & These 11 Are Must-Haves

Any brand aiming to take the guesswork and inflated prices out of the shopping experience is a brand we'd like to know. Brandless does, as its name suggests, just that. Offering an incredibly wide range of high-quality-low-price products across personal-care, home, skincare, and even pet categories. The shocker is that most of these items (like a luxe body scrub that smells of lemon pie) only cost between $1.50 to $15 — with the expectation of the all-encompassing 100-product bundle. Already a Brandless superfan, I decided to document my experience of testing out every product from its non-toxic and earth-friendly lineup.

For context: I'm allergic to almost everything, breakout when products have too many ingredients, and often find myself wasting fancy serums and body lotions due to my ugly-hive reaction to most things that smell delicious. Come hither and join me ahead as, over the period of a few months, I slowly introduced my skin to something other than Neutrogena's Cream Cleanser and found really great biodegradable dog-poop bags. Which of Brandless's affordable products are now my must-have buys? Click on to see for yourself.

Lemon Verbena Body Scrub

What it is: A zesty salt & sugar exfoliating scrub

What I thought: Upon entering my steamy 30-minute shower session, I cracked open this body scrub and the bathroom was instantly filled with a lemon meringue aroma. I slathered my legs with the non-sticky substance to my liking and rinsed off a few moments after. When I climbed into bed that night, let's just say my boyfriend was thrilled that I smelled like cake and even more enthused that my booty-skin felt as soft as silk.

Razor Starter Kit

What it is: A rounded-edge razor complete with aloe vera & vitamin E strips. I also received the razor refills.

What I thought: Umm, why aren't all razors made like this? Besides curtains and batteries, razors are one of those essential things I despise re-purchasing. Its rounded edges got into every little nook and cranny my other razors cannot reach beneath my underarms, behind my knee caps, and along my bikini line. It made shaving seamless, and the razor wasn't too sharp. (Raise your hand if you usually leave the shower bleeding!) I've already bought more.

Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent Packs

What it is: These detergent packs are made without fragrances and contained in a cool pod-like container made of recycled materials.

What I thought: When I said I was allergic to most things, that also includes laundry detergent. If it has fragrances, I basically turn into a walking rash. These worked wonders for me and my boyfriend on wash days. Plus, the cute little pouches are really fun to toss into the washer.

Mint Foot Cream

What it is: A refreshing and moisturizing cream made without parabens and instead crafted with coconut oil.

What I thought: Boy oh boy — wearing thick-soled boots and chunky sneakers will really do a number on your soles. I've tried many creams that seemed to leave my poor toes even drier after it wore off. This one doesn't, though. Not only does it smell minty fresh, but the coconut oil adds a super creamy feel to my feet that even my dog Basil wants to lick off.

Pet Waste Bags

What it is: Totally Degradable Plastic Additives (TDPA™) to expedite the plastic breakdown cycle. Durable for all pet dog-walking needs.

What I thought: These came at the perfect time. We had just adopted our rescue doggy Basil and we totally forgot to order waste bags for long walks. I put these into a little leash attachment and used them all up in a matter of weeks. I feel a lot better knowing the plastic is degradable, and even better when I realized they don't break as I'm poop scoopin'.

Coconut Water Body Butter

What it is: A creamy body lotion made with coconut water and shea butter that hasn't been testing on animals. Yay!

What I thought: It's creamy, it's soft and it smells like a beach-vacation dream. I love the scent of coconut so if you do not, beware. It's VERY scented but not overwhelmingly, in my opinion. When I slather my skin with it after a long bath, I feel like I'm regaining the moisture I really need after stripping it with bath bombs or scorching water.

Organic Cotton Top Sheet Regular Absorbency Pads

What it is:
Pads! Made without chlorine, dyes or, fragrances. Plus, the top layer is made from 100% organic cotton.

What I thought: I'm usually a tampon kind of gal, but on heavier days (like the one I'm experiencing right this moment) these really came in handy. I have latex issues that often cause pads to irritate my lady bits, but these didn't at all. Also, they're thinner than those jumbo adult diapers yet hold just as much.

Aluminum Free Citrus Neroli Deodorant

What it is: A natural deodorant free of aluminum and other questionable ingredients.

What I thought: TBH, I always assumed that natural deodorants don't work based on friends' reviews and my own strong BO. I sweat a lot as I'm a high-energy Aries sun and I often use my boyfriend's super-strong products to keep my sweats at bay. However, this aluminum-free deodorant worked just as well, to my shock and disbelief. It kept me drip-free while providing my pits with a nice citrus scent.

Grapefruit Facial Scrub

What it is: A softening polish with no microbeads or sulfates, phthalates, and dyes.

What I thought: I saved this product for last. I was terrified. My face doesn't react well to scrubs so I went into this fully prepared to have a reaction. Luckily, I didn't and my neighbors didn't have to hear me screaming about it all day. It smells subtly of grapefruit and clean cotton, and the tiny little polishing bits aren't rough on the skin.

Compostable Hot Beverage Cups

What it is: Ten 16oz disposable, renewable-resourced cups and lids with matching little sleeves.

What I thought: I brought these into my local coffee shop (shoutout to Brooklyn Whiskers) and the judgemental environmentalists that subsist in that shop were pleased with me, making me feel like a superwoman. These cups keep my lattes warm even as I wander back home in the snow.

Fluoride Free Peppermint Toothpaste

What it is: A toothpaste blended with essentials oils, free of harmful fluoride and alcohol.

What I thought: I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm obsessed with my teeth. The idea of blinding someone with my smile is the ultimate goal, although I smize in every photo. I'm always searching for another tooth product that will highlight my teeth and this peppermint toothpaste did the trick. I didn't notice my already-white teeth get whiter but my breath did feel fresher for longer.
