The 3 Hottest Haircut Trends Of Summer 2021

The dichotomy of long versus short hair is tricky in the summer. On one hand, there's the heat factor, which makes you want to chop your hair off so your neck can breathe. On the other hand, a super-short cut, especially when new, can sometimes be challenging to style. The pixie cut you intended to be wash 'n go? Quite the opposite actually.

This summer, the hair trends fall in the Goldilocks zone: not crazy long, not too short, but a happy mid-length refresh. Ahead, find visuals of the three biggest styles that are rolling out in salons across the country, from L.A. to NYC. Whether you're going for the "hot-girl bob," the approachable mid-length chop, or a rounded shag complete with a curtain bang 2.0, you'll find the perfect style to wear through vacation season, ahead.

Hot-Girl Bob

This summer's "hot-girl bob" has already been well documented. The trend started with celebrities Regina King and Halle Berry. Now, fashion models like Arlenis Sosa are proof that the classic, chin-length bob is always in style — especially in the hotter months, complemented with a bikini top and sunnies.
Here, hairstylist Angela C. Stevens styles a razor-sharp bob on author and talk-show host Elaine Welteroth. But scroll through the gallery and you'll see how versatile the cut really is, styled straight, with a bend, or a bouncy, flipped blowout.

Mid-Length Chop

Another option, if your hair is long and you want a less drastic change, go for a mid-length chop. L.A. hairstylist Sal Salcedo says that the single-length cut is always sleek.
Brie Larson, styled by Bryce Scarlett, shows how a blunt mid-length cut can be jazzed up with a little texture — waves or curls — and heavy side part.

Modern Shag

The modern shag — this visual from curl expert Natalie Buda — is cool because of its shape: rounded with bangs. "There is natural fullness due to the layers and the shaping of the cut, but without the forced fullness from spray and product,” explains hair pro Marco Pelusi.
This modern shag, out of Nashville's Dandelion Salon, shows that a longer shag cut is chic and effortless. Plus, the bang is a kind of choose your own adventure: You can make yours piece-y with your forehead peeking through, straight across and blunt, or a curtain situation.
