The last days of June are upon us: It’s time to soak up the
Sun in Cancer by over-committing ourselves to social plans with past loved ones, getting overwhelmed, and canceling graciously.
With both Mars and
Venus in Leo , the drive to express our emotions and desires can become rather heightened. The relief of Mars in her exaltation and Venus in a sign that is less interested in taking care and more interested in taking what's hers will be quite palpable for Earthlings who are Mars/Venus ruled (Aries, Scorpio, Taurus, Libra) and the rest of our fixed signs as well (Aquarius, Leo).
But palpable isn’t always pretty, especially with Mars in Leo making an opposition to Saturn in Aquarius on July 1st. Of course, like anything else, an opposition is not inherently bad news. There are plenty of things that thrive and find pleasure from opposition and perhaps it would be worthwhile to think of astrology as a team sport. While Mars and Venus take turns at bat, our
collective planets Jupiter , Saturn,
Neptune and Pluto are stationed retrograde in the outfield, and what happens with the ball by the time it’s out there is really a Cosmos-take-the-wheel scenario.
The opposition between Mars and Saturn will be supported by our
last quarter moon in Aries, which also occurs on July 1st. All signs say fall back and reflect for a few more days — this is no time to
pull a D.W. and pretend you can’t read. Mars makes a trine to Chiron in Aries on the 2nd following the quarter moon, and while a trine might be an aspect we usually look forward to, what flows through might be less about general ease and more about emotional processing. This aspect is followed by a square from Uranus in Taurus to Mars in Leo in the 3rd, all before closing out the week with the Sun in Cancer making a cardinal square to Chiron in Aries on the 4th.
Many of us will find ourselves taking two steps forward and one step back — if we take any steps at all! Chiron’s involvement reminds us that while certain roadblocks might be beyond our control (Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto), our responses are rooted in long-held beliefs about who we are and what we are (or aren’t) capable of. You gotta feel it to heal it, and while no one can make you do either, the universe seems more than happy to remind us what it is we’re
not doing right now.

Because your ruling planet is Mars, you’ll definitely be feeling the cosmic weather this week. Mars in Leo is bold and expressive, happy to initiate and powered by a leonine drive to keep the fire going until it gets bigger and better. That said, when Mars opposes Saturn in Aquarius on July 1st, confidence and charisma might prove lacking when it comes to getting things going. Rather than struggle against the limitations that come up — or take them personally — let those limitations set your pace. If you feel a flow, follow it. If you get a chance to play, take it. There’s no reason to force things — change is already on its way. Illustration by Stefhany Lozano

It is good to have Venus, your ruling planet, move under the stars of Leo. It’s an invitation for you, Taurus, to inhabit the part of yourself that loves a grand gesture, even if it’s a little embarrassing. Taurus people know that surrender to joy is the antidote to embarrassment and, while you do not outwardly surrender very often, it’s not a secret that you enjoy and seek the company of those who do — if only to bask in the sweetness and vulnerability of their self-expression. It’s a healing thing to harmonize with others, to hold a feeling together. If you’re in the right company, you might want to sing out, too. And why not?Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Gemini Sun & Gemini Rising
Your season’s over, but your light glows ever bright, dear twin star. Your ruling planet, Mercury, is powerful in the sign of Gemini and slowly shrugging off the confusion of Mercury’s retrograde transit. The night belongs to lovers and The Lovers card belongs to you. The energy is right for making new connections, for letting another person spark your spark and reflect your light back to you. Even in a mirror, you have to reach out to be reached at all. Let any past feelings you’ve had of disconnect give way to dialogue. Reach out from a place that holds relationships sacred, that recognizes there are many languages love speaks, only some of which you know.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano

Debt is a four-letter word that carries a lot of weight. Debt is recognized as something material, a borrowed amount that must be repaid. But debt is also energetic, like the kind of debt your body experiences when you do not care for it properly, when there’s a lack of sleep or food that sustains your energy. Then, there's what you feel you are owed, or what you feel you owe others. Most of these debts are interconnected and while you may not always be conscious of it, your relationship to debt affects all relationships you build on top of it. Remember that debt is never a one-way exchange: It is the responsibility of both the debtor and the creditor. This week is a valuable time to examine the debts you maintain, the power they have over you, and what you owe yourself.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Leo Sun & Leo Rising
It’s not Leo season yet, but it feels like Leo season a little bit. Possibly because Venus has just joined Mars under the stars of Leo, and probably because Leos like to stretch out a little bit outside the line that’s drawn for them. Either way, this week’s sweet offerings are potent with potential. But, your renewed sense of confidence and self-regard won’t quite cancel out the effect of Mars in Leo making an opposition to Saturn in Aquarius on July 1st. An opposition isn’t an obstacle exactly, but it can create one. This is especially true if the way you assert yourself and your desires conflicts with the relationships you are trying to build. The pushback you receive isn’t meant to hold you back. It’s meant to teach you other ways to move forward.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Virgo Sun & Virgo Rising
There are certain things you can say and will into existence. If one’s life was subject to one plot line, this might work most of the time. Alas, the plots we so carefully write out in the morning are subject to change by midday due to the plots written out by everything that lives around us: people, animals, the weather. Because human behavior is unpredictable, so is human response to your efforts. If it helps, you can sing “there’s definitely definitely definitely no logic ” to soothe the frustration. While you shouldn’t take it personally, you should remember that interpersonal things usually require patience and temperance. Knowing this, accepting it, is the key this week when everything within you wants to move things forward, yet the universe does not seem to want to comply. Illustration by Stefhany Lozano

It’s not that the political/ (or literal) climate is getting stormier, it’s that the past few years have seen a lot of veils fall away. Because many of us are conditioned toward prioritizing individualized, heteronormative family structures and career tracks, it can be difficult to orient ourselves toward the collective. Even if we believe in collective power, we rarely prepare ourselves for the difficulty of finding and sustaining affinity groups that allow us to feel part of something bigger than ourselves without compromising some part of ourselves. That isn’t a good enough reason to back down from the effort, though. It’s a challenge that requires you to own what is your most authentic expression so that you know exactly how much it is worth when it comes time to play for the team.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano

When I think of reputation, I think of the skunk medicine card from the Animal Medicine deck by Jamie Sams and David Carson: “Learn to assert, without ego, what you are. Respect follows. Your self-respectful attitude will repel those who are not of like mind, and yet will attract those who choose the same pathway. As the odor of Skunk attracts others of its kind, it repels those who will not respect its space.” This week is a good time to think about what you bring forward when you share yourself with others. If there are aspects of yourself that you keep bringing to the foreground, are there aspects that you find yourself concealing in the process? What are the insecurities that guide what you show the world? Can you take time to tend to them from a place of love rather than suppression?Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Sagittarius Sun & Sagittarius Rising
The general theme of information — how we come by it, how verifiable it is, and how we mean to integrate it into our reality — has been generally present for all Earthlings this year and specifically present for you, dear Sagittarius. The battle to counteract fake news wages on in the media, while, at the same time, we are called to show up and live into this present moment with little reverence for what it took to get here — how much was lost, how much was uncovered. There’s no simple way to live verily into every moment and help others do the same. But, you can practice by giving value and weight to what you have evidence of, by prioritizing what you know to be true over what you fear could be true. Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Capricorn Sun & Capricorn Rising
Between the full moon in Capricorn this past week and the quarter moon in Aries that shines its lidded eye on you this July 1st, you’re more than likely to be working with a lot of feelings. Working with is the key phrase here because while these feelings are not particularly new, you’re still in the process of figuring out what you're supposed to DO with them. First of all, the obvious answer is to feel them. Feeling your feelings is not nothing! It is productive, it generates new emotional muscles and teaches you about your window of tolerance . Second of all, the process of feeling and respecting your own emotional responses is a key to making well-informed steps forward. Third of all, your forward can’t and won’t look like anybody else’s. That’s a blessing.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Aquarius Sun & Aquarius Rising
Good thing that you have a different relationship to time from other, regular Earthlings. Otherwise, the constant two-steps forward, one-step back progression of everything around you would feel a lot more confusing than it does. At worst, the burnout of pushing extra-hard just to get decently ahead has started to take its toll on you. At best, you’ve begun to recognize that lack of progress is no indication of your personal failure to do the work. Either way, it’s never too late to realize that your worth isn’t something you prove through unwavering excellence. Only machines live up to that standard and, for all we know, they’re not living at all.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
Pisces Sun & Pisces Rising
There must be something about the time between June and December that turns you around, Pisces. Something that has you pressing pause on old fantasies and playing them back. Or, walking away from the inner script altogether. Whether it’s the call of the elements, a desire to simply feel the aliveness and nothing else, this year’s Neptune Retrograde is more than ready to offer you the time and space you crave. However, with Jupiter Rx still moving through Pisces this week, too much space might start to feel like an echo chamber. In which case, perhaps a co-cosmonaut or two is just what you need to make space the place.Illustration by Stefhany Lozano
