What R29’s Shopping Team Bought (& Loved) For Under $100

If we had $100 to spend, what would we buy? Answers to this question won't just vary from person to person, they'll also vary from moment to moment — or, in the case of this story, month to month. On occasions when our finances afford us the extra $$$ that can be spared on non-essentials, the purchases we choose to make with it are both specific and dynamic. This is why our roundup of R29's Shopping team's MVPs isn't a guide to what you should deem worthy of spending a Benjamin (or under) on, it's just a shared list of items that enriched our day-to-day in some type of way. All we hope is that, maybe, one or two can do the same for you.

Ahead, behold the under-$100 products we actually bought, used, came to rely on, and LOVE over the past 30+ days: from a splendid pair of breezy pants to a second-skin bodysuit, genius Amazon label-makers, and some seriously good SPF. Scroll on to web-window shop, feel seen, inspired, fatigued, or just connected across all the noise. Oh, and please don't be shy in the comment sections below — we thrive on hearing about the gems you've carted for under one hundo that have made these weird times feel just a smidge sunnier.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Eau de Juice BeachPlease Eau De Parfum

"Ever since I saved up enough money as a teen to purchase Bobbi Brown's Beach, sunscreen-scented perfumes have lived in my head rent-free. I found this whimsical juice-box-shaped situation hiding in the depths of Walmart's virtual aisles and, although I am not one to blindly shop scents online, I could not resist adding it to cart — it was over 50% off, after all. It arrived within a few days and post excitedly tearing open the packaging, I was not disappointed by the first spritz. Waves of smooth vanilla and creamy coconuts cut by juicy pineapple washed over me. It was as though Bobbi Brown Beach grew up and gave birth to a zestier Gen-Z Beach baby. I spray it on every morning before sitting down to work and often catch myself absentmindedly dragging my wrists across my nose to catch a whiff of what can only be described as 'vacation in a bottle.'" — Elizabeth Buxton, Deputy Director

Baggu Small Leather Retail Tote

"My heart skipped a beat when I saw this adorable mini tote on Baggu's website — and at half off! It's the dreamiest shade of lilac, and it's smol (but not impractically so). I can't wait to wear it out to brunch dates and perhaps even a return to rooftop happy hours." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid

"Dr. Jart+ gained my trust two years ago with its Porecting Solution bubble mask that still revives my skin when necessary, and so I’m not surprised about how much I love this toner. It’s extremely moisturizing like it advertises — honestly, it gives off more of a lotion consistency as opposed to your average liquid toner, so I like to pat it on rather than wipe it with a cotton pad. It has helped counteract the Retin-A dryness that’s going on with my face right now." – Alexandra Polk, Associate Lifestyle Writer

Nike Revolution 5 Running Sneaker

"I started going back to the gym in May only to hit the treadmill and wonder if I was running barefoot because my exercise shoes were that worn out. So, I cashed in on these Nike Revolution 5’s (an R29 reader favorite) and I’m not disappointed! Since I like to run I always look for something lightweight but still supportive for squat jumps/weight lifting activities and this pair can handle both. Prior to these, I had the Nike Free Runs which land at a higher price point, so I think these are a great affordable option to buy if you want a similar feel (they are definitely bulkier but not bothersome)." – Alexandra Polk, Associate Lifestyle Writer

Tula Dual-Phase Skin Reviving Treatment Pads

"I've written about testing lots of products for my keratosis pilaris bumps on my upper arms, and these exfoliating Tula pads are among the best things I've ever tried. Each packet is saturated with a probiotic and lactic acid complex to smooth texture, plus papaya fruit extract to brighten discoloration." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

Ceremonia The Frida Headband

"Here is a very cropped-in photo of me from a recent wedding where I wore the most beautiful headband to ever grace the crown of my big head. Described by Ceremonia — the very cool Latinx-owned clean-haircare brand that created it — as a 'Braided Satin Diadema,' the luxuriously padded accessory is inspired by Frida Kahlo and crafted from a lightweight 100% satin that felt like butter to wear (after a few hours I did not experience any of that achy-behind-the-ears action) and elicited many a compliment from fellow wedding guests. It comes in a stunning emerald green (shown here) along with a rich black and is priced at (what I consider to be) a very reasonable $28. I could not recommend this more to any fellow big-heads out there looking to make a statement." — Elizabeth Buxton, Deputy Director

Outdoor Voices Warmup 5" Short

"I’ve had the navy colorway of these shorts for quite some time and I wear them a LOT, especially in the sticky New York summer months. As a short human, I’ve found it a little tricky to find a pair of bike shorts that aren’t too long but also aren’t super short. These fit great, are just the right length, and are substantial enough to last many many washes. A wardrobe summer staple for sure." – Kate Spencer, Creative & Updates Editor

Artmalle Bamboo Laptop Desk

"Beware, this product is definitely MVP worthy, but it WILL keep you glued to your bed because it’s so efficient. Once 2021 hit, I gave up on trying to get out of bed for work every morning and instead started using this bamboo, multi-use bed desk that my dad gifted me for Christmas. My posture has improved ten-fold, my computer rarely overheats because of the desk’s vents, and no coffee has been spilled since this purchase. It’s also super sleek and I fold it up under the bed when I want to forget about work on the weekends. For only $25, this laptop desk is everything! Definitely recommend for work-from-homers, bed devotees, and people with hot computers." – Alexandra Polk, Associate Lifestyle Writer

Universal Standard Next–to–Naked Bodysuit

"This bodysuit truly feels like a second skin. It’s the epitome of comfort, and It’s so smooth and soft. I move so easily in this, and it’s such an easy piece to just throw on. After a few flights in this, The N2N bodysuit is officially my go to flying uniform. It’s also great for pretty much any workout. For yoga, you can wear it as is, but throw in a sports bra if you are doing high intensity activity like running. I’ll definitely be getting the other colors." – Chichi Offor, Associate Writer

Anker Soundcore Mini Bluetooth Speaker

"For years, I’ve been saying that I wish I had a speaker for the beach and park sits, so I finally got one. This mini Bluetooth speaker came with me on a recent trip to Miami, and it was the perfect addition to my oceanside hangs! It worked for hours right out of the box before I ever needed to charge it. It’s super portable with a solid base and good sound quality given the small size. You can also apparently take calls on it too." – Chichi Offor, Associate Writer

Essence Lash Princess Curl Mascara

"This mascara, like, quadruples the volume of my lashes in their natural state. It’s a pretty dramatic difference, but I love that it’s buildable too. Essence's mascaras have worked well for me in the past and continue to do so." – Chichi Offor, Associate Writer

DYMO Label Manager 160 Portable Label Maker

"After buying Kate's electronic organizer from last month's MVPs, I decided to really get crazy with things and added a label maker to take my organizing to new heights. I'm also in the process of moving, so I've unearthed approximately 13,431 rogue charging cables. It took a long time, but I've now dutifully stickered every one (and given away the plethora of extra iPhone cables), including the ones to my pup's cordless clippers, seen here." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

Dockable Case for Nintendo Switch

"I've always been into video games, ever since getting my Playstation 2 as a wee pre-teen. In the year 2021, I don't travel anywhere without my Switch; I already have a padded case for mine, but was in the market for a shell to offer extra protection and a cute color upgrade. This baby-blue one is super comfortable to hold, doesn't add extra bulk, and was under $20." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

Who Gives A Crap 100% Recycled Toilet Paper

"Ok, this is the LEAST glamorous purchase of the month, but my very eco-conscious mom (hi, Suzanne!) has been raving about this toilet paper for the past two years. I just moved and decided to order a 24-pack. Each roll is made from 100% recycled fiber and 50% of Who Gives A Crap’s profits from all of their products go directly to charity partners who work in water, hygiene and sanitation." – Kate Spencer, Creative & Updates Editor

"'Blessings Unto You,' it reassuringly says on the front, and I couldn't have put it better myself. This versatile cream works equally well for dry skin, chapped lips, as a body moisturizer, and I've even started to rub it into the thirsty tips of my tired mane (to great effect). The Nonbinary Memoirs of Gender & Identity & Honey Girl

"I’ve been in a reading slump for years now. I used to be an avid reader in high school, and I really wanted to get back into it. These two books are a breeze to get into. They suck you into their stories and perspectives so quickly. The writing style is beautiful, and I can truly say they have both changed my life. Razor Starter Kit

"I’ve used many razors — Gillette Venus, Gillette for Men, Bic, and more since I started shaving like a decade ago, but this Billie razor has made some excellent points. When I stepped out of the shower, my legs were so smooth; not the kind of smooth where the hair is gone and your leg feels like the Sahara desert, but the kind of smooth that made me wonder if I even needed to put on lotion. This is my favorite razor for sure, and it's already helping me survive summer in New York." – Alexandra Polk, Lifestyle Writer

Trouva Glass 'Sel' Pot

"It was about three weeks ago that I realized I had finally become a fully-fledged grown-up. Why else would I be trawling the internet for the perfect receptacle for posh salt? Enro Solid Face Mask

Last Month's Top MVP:
"Yes, the CDC is constantly updating its policies and regulations, but at this point putting on a face mask is like putting on a pair of pants to me and I don't know if I can go back — especially with these super comfortable (and stylish) masks from Enro. After a long year of trying out different face shields, masks, etc. these are definitely one of my faves. They have adjustable straps, give my mouth enough room to speak, and most importantly I feel protected by them. I even go running in mine and I don't suffocate or anything. I would definitely buy again." – Alexandra Polk, Lifestyle Writer

Girlfriend Collective White Bucket Hat

Last Month's Top MVP:
"I have been on the hunt for a great bucket-style cap that would actually fit my large noggin, weather spring showers while pairing well with my dog-walking athleisurewear, and transition nicely to a cute-beach hat for summer. This newly dropped bucket by GC covered all those bases; it's made from durable yet soft recycled organic cotton (that I'm assuming can be tossed in the wash when it needs freshening up) and is offered in two sizes (the larger of which, miraculously, fit my big head). I went with the classic white but am also quite taken with the fatigue green." – Elizabeth Buxton, Deputy Director

Last Month's Top MVP:
"I’m a big fan of necklaces (I literally have so many), but my go-to is my bee Mejuri one. If you’re hesitant about the gold vermeil material, don’t be. It holds up so much better than some of my other gold-plated ones. The detail is small enough to look dainty but big enough to get noticed. In general, Mejuri never disappoints me!" – Mercedes Viera, Associate Deals Writer

Crude Soapless Wash

Last Month's Top MVP:
"Last month I got real with you guys about how infrequently I wash my hair (and how it helps me justify spending lots of money on magical shampoo and conditioner) — so I was very curious about Crude, a “soap-free” line of washes that uses plant-based ingredients to cleanse and protect the skin. The soapless wash is made with aloe, and while it doesn’t feel much like soap at all, it definitely gets the job done — post-shower, my skin felt refreshed, moisturized, and not stripped and tight the way traditional soap can make you feel." – Emily Ruane, Fashion Writer

Last Month's Top MVP:
"Last month, I oddly couldn’t get SKIMS out of my brain and needed to try something from the brand to see if it’s actually worth the hype. I tried a few of their bralettes — all of which are shockingly amazing. They’re so soft and stretchy, but also comfortable and flattering. Plus the colors and size range are kind of unbeatable? Miracle-Gro Plant Food Sticks

Last Month's Top MVP:
"If you read the shopping team’s recent-ish online plant shop review, then you may already know I’m not exactly a green thumb. Naturally, when my snake plant started to look a little withered (I know — I deserve a medal), it was time to consult my plant-whisperer mom. Without skipping a beat, she recommended these Miracle-Gro plant food sticks; according to her testimonial, they successfully revived one of her leafy babies within an inch of death. Sure enough, within a few weeks of popping two little spikes into freshly watered soil, and I’m already seeing healthier happier growth. For $3, consider this insurance for your plant collection." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

RIXO For Target Blue Floral Puff Sleeve Lace Inset Swing Dress

"I am a huge fan of U.K. label RIXO's vintage-inspired printed dresses — but the steep $300+ price points, not so much. This is why news of the brand's recently dropped collab with Target was met, by yours truly, with unbridled glee. I ordered this here $50 frock (gasp) immediately after the collection launched this past Sunday and it arrived with lightning speed in under two days shipping time. The line is size-inclusive, full of fantastically flouncy styles, and actually very nice quality. I was worried that the fabric might feel plasticky or heavy but it was surprisingly lightweight and soft to the touch. The fit, draping, and cut were also much better than I anticipated with no awkward pulling or gaping. I already owned one RIXO dress (snagged it on sale!) prior to shopping this more affordable collab and can assure you that the quality of the Target line is SPOT on. Beautiful By Drew Barrymore One-Touch Electric Kettle

Last Month's Top MVP:
"This pretty electric kettle is the product of Drew Barrymore's newest Walmart venture, a cookware collection she's aptly dubbed Beautiful. I snagged one for my kitchen after we covered its launch and am delighted by the dreamy sight of it atop my counter (as well as how lightning-fast it boils up a pot full of water). This pistachio-green piece only costs $40, if you can believe it — and, on top of its luxe aesthetics, it also boasts high-tech capabilities with a digital touchscreen that lights up when you need to use it and turns off when you don't. This could, in all honesty, be one of the best things I've purchased all year. It just dropped in cool sesame-black, oyster-gray, and icing-white colorways as well." – Elizabeth Buxton, Editor

Feals CBD Extract

Last Month's Top MVP:
"Not all hemp-derived CBD products are created equal but many people still find and favor quality brands that haven't yet been evaluated or approved by the FDA. I can now count myself among them in swearing by one for helping me to sleep solidly through the night. If you haven't heard of feals, it's a membership-based CBD subscription where, prior to signing up, you can sample extract flights in order to discover which strength works best with your body. Its product is hand-harvested by farmers in Colorado and Oregon using organic farming practices and only contains full-spectrum hemp and USDA certified organic MCT oil (nothin' else). Pretty nifty. Since I've dabbled in CBD, I went with the mid-level 1200-MG — but, the under-$100 600-MG is great for beginners. The first night I tried it, I went a bit overboard and took down a full-dropper. This resulted in me waking up after 12 hours of sleep not knowing what day it was. So, the next night, I actually paid attention to the measurement markers on the dropper and took about a third of what I had before. This equaled a still-as-sound slumber session sans any groggy morning-after effects. I woke up feeling fresh and wellrested — which is a rarity for me! It's also worth noting that I usually take a third of the dropper 30 minutes before getting into bed and it hits me pretty quickly." – Elizabeth Buxton, Editor

Emily Deakin Designs Hermana Solo Ring

Last Month's Top MVP:
"I bought this unisex bronze ring after adding it to a Valentine’s Day round-up — it’s carved completely by hand, without a mold, so no two are exactly alike. It took a while to get here because it was coming from Spain, but I put it on as soon as it arrived and have not taken it off. It stacks so perfectly with my other gold rings and blends right in thanks to the warm color. (Brass can be really yellow, but this ring is bronze and boasts a rosy under-glow.) On the subject of brass and bronze — as a longtime wearer of both of these metals I know that they can both tarnish easily and stain the skin. Not so with this ring! There is sometimes a faint dark mark on my skin when I wake up in the morning but for the most part, it has remained totally tarnish-free." – Emily Ruane, Fashion Writer

Farmacy Honey Grail Ultra-Hydrating Face Oil

Last Month's Top MVP:
"I have sensitive skin (eczema-prone, easily flushed, struggled with perioral dermatitis for five years) — so when I find a product that actually harmonizes with my complexion instead of traumatizing it, it's a good day. I'd had Farmacy's all-natural skincare on my radar but had yet to actually try any of its premium products until Honey Grail. And, it's just as divine as its clever name suggests. It's pretty spot-on described as a "fast-absorbing, antioxidant-rich face oil for ultimate hydration and glow!" The little bottle features a serum-like dropper that dispenses a luxe oil that feels and smells like a lightweight version of honey — likely due to the fact that it's made with real honey, along with sea buckthorn and a five-flower oil blend (including omegas, vitamins, and amino acids). Since I've been using it in the mornings after splashing my face with cool water, I've noticed improvements; my complexion feels plumper, smoother, brighter, and, most importantly, soothed! A little goes a long way and I've got plans to lean on this product as a sensitive-winter-skin holy grail (or, should I say honey grail?)." – Elizabeth Buxton, Editor

Sam Edelman Lior Loafer

Last Month's Top MVP:
"My wardrobe almost exclusively consists of shades of white, grey, and black, so I try to incorporate color in my accessories and makeup. It’s widely known among friends, family, and the R29 Shopping Team that forest green is my signature color, so when I stumbled upon these croc-leather loafers, it was as if time stood still. I’d been in the market for cute, versatile loafers I could wear with everything (but would also upgrade any ’fit), and these Sam Edelman ones were deliciously marked down during Nordstrom’s post-holiday sale. I have very smol feet and am usually in between a 5 and 5.5, but according to reviews, the style tends to run ever so slightly large. I got the 5’s and they fit like a dream — no breaking in period required." – Karina Hoshikawa, Beauty & Wellness Writer

Quince Mongolian Shrunken Cashmere Sweatshirt

Last Month's Top MVP:
"As someone who prefers to spend under-$100 on sweaters, I do not own a lot of cashmere. If you can believe it, which I couldn't, this beautiful 100% Mongolian cashmere sweater only costs $59. The brand, Quince, pulls off such sorcery through its MTC-business model of cutting out the middlemen and directly managing all of its wares' production elements (from creation to packaging and transportation). This fabric is indeed SUPER soft and does not disappoint in feeling very luxe. I also love how the shrunken fit (I'm wearing a size small here) adds a bit of a sporty-90s vibe to an otherwise preppy wardrobe staple. I was worried that it might pill very quickly/easily over time — but, at this point, I've worn it a LOT (in bed, on the couch, in a car, while eating very crumby snacks) and can confirm that it miraculously has done no such thing. It comes in other colorways and, IMO, would make for major crowd-pleasing gift material." – Elizabeth Buxton, Market Editor
