Anyone But You
Stream It On: Apple TV
Sydney Sweeney stars as Bea, who has an adorable yet self-aware meet-cute with her co-star Glen Powell's character, Ben. But after a big misunderstanding, they soon go from strangers, to lovers, to enemies. You've likely come across the footage of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell enjoying their time filming in Sydney, which makes the perfect backdrop for this summer rom-com.
Swiss Army Man
Stream It On: Netflix
Want to spend some time on a deserted island with Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe? Oh yeah, also one of them is dead. Swiss Army Man is definitely an inverted survivalist story — this by no means an uplifting Castaway story. It might not even fulfill any of your dreams of being alone on a deserted island. But it is funny, and that's what matters here.
Cha Cha Real Smooth
Stream It On: Apple TV
Anything Dakota Johnson — inject it. This 2022 film sees her (irresistible as always) as Domino, a local mother, who meets 22-year-old non-starter Andrew. He's got his sights set on her, but can't seem to get his life together, bar his strange talent as a motivational dancer at bat mitzvahs. It's his last summer before entering adulthood and he has to mature and pull himself up by his bootstraps if he wants to find love.
Mamma Mia!
Stream It On: Netflix
The only thing better than a summer romance is three! Let the sweeping Grecian vistas and Meryl Streep’s, well, everything, put you in a good mood. Besides, is there anything more summery than ABBA?
Ingrid Goes West
Stream It On: Hulu
Ingrid Goes West is really about a girl named Ingrid who stalks the heck out of someone on Instagram. That being said, sunny southern California is a main character in the movie all thanks to a surplus of Instagram-worthy sunsets and sandy beaches. Please don’t try to Ingrid Goes West anyone in real life.
The Graduate
Stream It On : Hulu
Find yourself stuck in a post-school slump? You’ve got company with Ben (a young Dustin Hoffman) who is back home and completely aimless, and you’ve probably seen the iconic image of him floating around in the backyard pool. Of course, he eventually finds something, or someone, in Mrs. Robinson, while also striking up a relationship with her daughter, too.
Into the Blue
Stream It On: Amazon Prime Video
If you didn’t grow up watching Into the Blue every summer, were you even a child of the ‘90s? Paul Walker and Jessica Alba play a couple who live and work in the Bahamas and when friends arrive, they are tempted by the idea of buried treasure somewhere out in the ocean. So campy and over-the-top, this is a perfect late summer night watch which honestly just gets better with every viewing.
Booksmart
Stream It On: Netflix
Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) are best friends who have always been academic overachievers so they could get into the schools of their dreams. In an effort to get all of their wild energy out in one night, they plan to attend the biggest party of the year but end up getting into even more antics along the way.
Can’t Hardly Wait
Stream It On: Netflix
Can’t Hardly Wait reigns supreme as one of the best teen movies about the end of school because it’s all about a raging end of the school year party. Everyone who was a teen star at the time is in this movie. I mean everyone.
Something’s Gotta Give
Stream It On: Amazon Prime Video
If you’re looking for a more serious summer movie. Something’s Gotta Give features a breathtaking Nancy Meyers kitchen set in the Hamptons. What more could to want? Oh yes, Keanu Reeves as one of the main love interests.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Stream It On: Disney +
Summer blockbusters are a dime a dozen now, but there’s just something about the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Maybe it’s the backdrop of the actual Caribbean or the fact that a lot of it takes place on a boat that makes it perfect for summer, or maybe it's just the way the sun kisses both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Lilo and Stitch
Stream It On: Disney +
No Disney animated movie screams “vacation” more than Lilo and Stitch . Taking place in the sun-soaked Hawaii, Lilo spends her days down at the beach feeding peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to a fish and hula dancing.
Sleepover
Stream It On: Netflix
Yes, the movie’s almost two decades old, so let that sink in for a second. Now that you feel super old, take a trip back to yesteryear when summer sleepovers used to be the absolute best thing in the world because you could stay up so late with zero consequences since you were a mere tween. The movie might be super dated now, but it’s still got a sweet charm to it.
Sabrina Down Under
Stream It On: Hulu
No, you don’t need to have watched every episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch to dive right into Sabrina Down Under . Away for the summer to learn about marine biology in Australia, Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart) gets more than she bargained for when she’s enlisted to help protect a secret Sabrina mermaid colony (!). Also, Salem the Cat finds a summer love for himself.
