Because Windows lacks native SSH support, properly setting up SSH tunneling and X-Forwarding in a Windows environment can be tricky. This guide is intended to show how the MobaXterm program can be used to easily set up X-Forwarding and SSH.
== Steps ==
# Ensure that you are connected to your organization's Virtual Private Network (VPN). Information and credentials on connecting to the VPN should be provided by your organization, as the process can vary significantly based on your organization's method of configuring the VPN.
# Download and install the home edition of the MobaXterm client from this link: http://bit.ly/2vaer90
# Open the mobaXterm client
# Click on the "Session" tab in the top left panel of the window
# Click on the "SSH" option at the top left of the "Session settings" window
# Enter your organization's server URL or IP address in the field "Remote host". This will be provided to you by your organization.
# Enter the port for your connection in the "Port" field. This will also be provided by your organization.
# Click on the button "Specify username" and enter the username assigned to you by your organization in the field next to this text
# Click "ok"
# Enter your password assigned to you by your organization when prompted to do so
== Tips ==
* With mobaXterm, extra steps are not necessary to configure X-forwarding, and it should work by default.
* This guide was created for Windows 10 users. The procedure may differ slightly for different versions of windows.
* If you are lacking server or login information, contact your organization! Only they can provide this information for you.
== Warnings ==
* NEVER connect to SSH without first connecting to your organization's VPN if required - Connecting through SSH to your organization's server without setting up a VPN connection can lead to an insecure connection and any information you send over this network may be susceptible to hacking!
